Turtle Migration

The transformation from one material to the other creates both controlled and uncontrolled results. These cast paper sculptures were made for the "lost wax" process in making the bronze turtles for the permanent installation commissioned by New York City Percent for Art and New York School Construction Authority at Learners and Leaders School, Ridgewood, NY.

The process in creating the bronze sculptures was a result of first sewing turtles in fabric. These fabric "stuffed animals" were then cast in paper. Wax and paint was then applied to the paper surface. The cast paper sculptures were then destroyed in the process of making the bronze sculptures.
